Emily Wong wins NCWIT Aspirations in Technology Washington State Competion
The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) honors young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests.  This year Emily Wong received a NCWIT Washington State Affiliate Award for Aspiration in Technology, which were presented at Google in the Spring.  Each year only 20 girls in Washington State receives this honor and in the past few years, more than 10 Garfield Students have won this award.  Please join us in congratulating these great Garfield Students on their accomplishments.  …

The Women in Technology club at Garfield High School is conducting a survey to see if there are differing attitudes surrounding women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and why that might be. The answers to these surveys will be used by the Women in Technology group to compare opinions and to see if there is a consensus.

Garfield Team takes 3rd Place at the Fall Programming Contest!

331 students from 27 schools across the Puget Sound participated in our biannual PSCSTA Programming Contest, held on Dec 13th at UW’s Paul Allen Center & Microsoft.  Garfield had 5 teams* programming for 3 hours, and our “Frizbros” (Frisbee Brothers) team of Adrian, Halden & Brian took 3rd place in the Novice division. This was the biggest event in PSCSTA’s history as computer science’s popularity grows. The competition was part of Computer Science Education week which included …

Garfield Dawgbots ranks 1st in League Competition
Our Garfield HS Dawgbotic team ranked 1st at Saturday’s (Dec 13, 2014) FIRST FTC Ritchie League Robotics competition against 11 local teams.  Check out Match #2 where we scored big in Autonomous mode (first 30 seconds) as well as in the final 30 second bonus – totaling 332 points, the day’s high: (Clean Video link)

Here’s the official Match Rankings (html) we are Team 4042 6-2 win-loss, the most of any team by 2!  And here are the day’s Match Results (again we are team 4042)
