Leveraging & Learning from Someone Else’s Code

To get back up to speed on Scratch, we will start the year by looking at your classmate’s Shared projects and then changing them to make your own project.

Assignment:
Look at you classmate’s or other period’s projects in the “Scratch Shared Project” folders of our Writeable > Exploring CS area – do NOT use the projects in other’s own folders – see my list of good examples below. First try to understand how their code works by looking at each Sprites’ tabs – especially Scripts but also look at their Costumes, Sounds & Stage.

Then make some changes to the program making it your own, be creative – MAKE NOT TO SAVE OVER THE ORIGINAL FILE – Go to File menu and “Save as…” to your own folder (you will have to navigate to it).

When you have your new program working, show it to Mr Bergquist to get signed off and make sure to save your copy in your folder.

Here are some good examples I found in the “Scratch Shared Project” folders of our Writeable > Exploring CS area:

Period 1:
dance ellen – elaborate dance moves
dance (jai jai) – cool motion around the kitchen
ellis’ coloring project – very cool drawing application
Maze Yunian – a challenging maze
Paz Art – enter name and press space to see the scene change
Pong Ellis – pong, can you figure out what keys move the paddles?
square man is already reusing code

Period 3:
ART Emma – some random flashy images
art project – Garrett Hopper – use the arrow keys to see the image change
Benjamin Baker – illustrates a few lines of a poem
Draw Paul – move the Ant with arrow keys
Pong (?) – nice pong game, space bar starts the ball going
Keyboardscratch Nick S – play the piano using the key board (dsasdddsssdgg)
Sokem art – drawing with the cat
willreed art – way out art
Can we fix sahara -cat dance to so all the characters dance?
