I hope many of you will be interested in joining us for the programming contest December 11th at University of Washington.  Register now.

Regardless of whether or not you plan to participate, I want you to do at least 4 practice problems in Java for me to check off! With time remaining, study Java at your own pace and/or do practice problems in the language of your choice.

Why, you ask? The problems are a great way to bring together all that we’ve learned from expressions all the way to file input. Plus, they’re pretty satisfying — I think you’ll find them very approachable.

Pick any 4 from the following sets:

• Advanced problems – the competition has two divisions: advanced and novice.  Advanced is for students who have completed a programming course, including most of you.
• Spring 2010 contest – this will be the format for this contest: all problems are worth 60 points. Data files.
• April 2009 contest – the problem number indicates how many points it is worth.  For example, problem 2.1 is worth two points while 9.1 is worth 9 points.  Only 5 and 9 pointers are eligible to be part of the 4 you get checked off!  Data files.  Extra data files.
• Fall 2008 contest – the problem number indicates how many points it is worth.  For example, problem 2.1 is worth two points while 9.1 is worth 9 points.  Only 5 and 9 pointers are eligible to be part of the 4 you get checked off!
